Trucks that are very safe are not just an important development for all road users. They are also more efficient, because they are less often put out of action by accidents and they help to relieve the driver's workload. This is why we have been focusing for over 45 years now on developing innovative safety assistance systems.
The equipment underlines the high-quality, attractive design of the cab: The upper cover of the MirrorCam's camera arm has a chrome look, the mirror base cover is painted in the colour of the cab.
In place of the conventional rear-view mirror, the new Actros can be fitted with the innovative, aerodynamically sophisticated MirrorCam. This saves fuel and offers improved visibility to the rear and in the area of the A-pillar. The MirrorCam also provides for added safety during manoeuvring, turning and lane changing, for example by panning2 the camera image according to the vehicle’s movements. As an alternative to the new MirrorCam, a classic mirror system is also available.
The camera system comprises two high-resolution fold-up cameras that are mounted on the upper roof frame. The camera images are sent to two 15.2" (38.6 cm) colour screens near the A pillar. To aid the driver in assessing the traffic behind him/her, the respective screen shows tracking and distance indicator lines as soon as he/she switches on the indicator at a speed greater than 30 kilometres per hour. Warnings alerting the driver to excessively tight turning angles add yet more assistance during manoeuvring.

Active Brake Assist 5. The latest-generation Active Brake Assist is even more effective in helping to prevent accidents. Overseas model shown.
The fifth generation of the system assists the driver9,10 by carrying out full brake application in response to stationary and moving objects in certain conditions, in addition to which it is also able to perform partial or maximum full-stop braking in response to moving or halted pedestrians, thereby reducing the severity of accidents or helping to avoid accidents altogether.

This assistance system with stop-and-go function is on hand to support the driver in certain situations and can reduce the risk of rear-end collisions.
Proximity Control Assist4 maintains the set desired speed similarly to the manner in which conventional cruise control works on free stretches of road. It is effective from a speed of 0 km/h. When the Actros approaches a vehicle ahead, the speed is adapted automatically according to the distance set by the driver. The distance is set on the multi-function steering wheel. Proximity Control Assist’s stop-and-go function slows down the Actros automatically, to a standstill, in stop-and-go traffic.

The new electronic parking brake with hold function combines easier handling and greater safety.
It is activated automatically on switching off the engine, but can also be switched on and off using the lever in the cockpit. The integrated HOLD function is activated when the vehicle is at a standstill simply by pressing the brake pedal firmly, for example at a red traffic light or on an uphill gradient. It is released as soon as the accelerator is pressed again. This assists in avoiding the danger of the vehicle rolling back when taking off on an uphill gradient.
This optional ex-factory pre-installation enables the swift and simple installation of up to four analogue cameras. This provides for added safety when manoeuvring.
The new LED daytime running lamps with integrated indicator enhance vehicle recognition during the day, thus contributing to greater safety. It is automatically dimmed when dipped-beam headlamps are switched on.
The design creates a unique look and the unit's extended service life also reduces service and repair costs.
The robustness and durability of the specially designed LEDs contribute to added safety while also contributing to low maintenance and repair costs. In addition to the turn signal lamp, brake light and rear light, this equipment also includes the tail lamp, licence plate lamp, rear fog lamp and the clearance/side marker lamps.
Economical, reliable Euro VI engines in four displacement categories. Future-oriented technology, up to 460 kW (625 hp) and 3000 Nm maximum torque.

Saving is splendid: The OM 471 engine is a greatly improved drive system for the Actros and Arocs model series that also reduces fuel consumption by up to 4%*.
Emission control.
With fuel consumption reduced, CO2 emissions are down too. A newly developed and integrated exhaust control system delivers the ideal compromise between efficient combustion and AdBlue consumption.
Optimised turbocharger and turbocharger strategy.
New power-optimised turbocharger for 375 kW (510 hp) and 390 kW (530 hp) output categories for power-oriented on-road use and for off-road use in all output categories.
Transmission.
With improved torque build-up at low rev speeds, start-up is smoother than ever and PowerShift Advanced simplifies starting and gear shifting behaviour: shifting times are up to 40% faster* in the upper gears, thereby reducing torque disruption.
Sensitivity.
When it comes to manoeuvring, trucks often present drivers with unexpected challenges. Manoeuvring is now more comfortable* with the help of a more progressive feel in the lower pedal travel (i.e. from a pedal position at rest to pushed down halfway). The direct response in the upper pedal travel (pushed down halfway to full throttle) provides a more dynamic response when starting off. It also makes it easier to drive through roundabouts and accelerate out of them with confidence.
